The double crochet stitch twice the height of the single and less compact. It forms the basis of many pattern stitches.

YO and insert hook in 4th chain from hook. Catch Yarn, A, and draw a loop through the chain.(3 loops on hook), Yarn over and pull through 2 loops, Yarn over and pull through 2 loops on hook to complete stitch. Work a double across row in each chain across row. After last stitch chain 3, turn and begin 2nd row.



  1. Wrap the yarn over the hook [yo]. Insert the hook through the top loops of the fourth chain [ch] from the hook.

  2. Wrap the yarn over the hook [yo] and draw a loop (there are new three loops on hook).

  3. Wrap the yarn over the hook [yo] and draw it through the first two loops on the hook; wrap the yarn over the hook [yo] and draw through the two remaining loops [dc – double crochet]. You have now made one double crochet. Work three chains [ch] (for the turning chain) for double crochet.
