As soon as I picked up
African Inspirations in Embroidery
I felt an instant connection – perhaps because I am South African. I
have often marveled at the extraordinary beadwork produced at our local
markets and purchased various intricate necklaces that when worn
display a great appreciation for African culture and their artwork. I
could only dream of producing something of such diversity and quality.
However, this book provides great starting points for anyone interested
in textile art (using embroidery, dyeing or quilting) and African
culture; especially those looking to make their own traditional
African-style textiles. The book covers all aspects of working projects
such as original source materials, design elements, use of colour,
various techniques and skills to help produce those amazing finished
pieces including tips on how to work with certain types of patterns and
textured surfaces. |
