I have seen ready made scarves and ponchos in the stores made with real
fur. Do you know whether there is a source for real fur yarns that I
can knit with?
Although I have not noticed real fur yarn in the yarn shops here, A
Touch of Fur, a Canadian company, has a web site where they sell knits
and explain all about their real fur yarn, www.ATouchofFur.com. Their
patented yarn is made from genuine fur pelts – sheared beaver, mink,
fox, and muskrat. The pelts are hand cut into narrow strips. The strips
are reinforced with color matched cotton and twisted, so the leather is
on the inside covering the cotton, with the fur radiating outwards from
the center. They note that rapping is well regulated, environmentally
sustainable and accounts for the livelihood of a certain segment of the
Canadian population. They have been producing this yarn since 1979 |
